Feds Gone Wild? Sure. But What About NE Officials?

By Shelli Dawdy I’m a frustrated taxpayer. Very frustrated. Where’s the frustration coming from? Right here in Nebraska’s capital. As I’ve been looking at Nebraska’s budget, I’ve been very disappointed to realize just how many of those dollars come from the federal government. Recently, I shared two charts that quantify Nebraska’s revenue sources in graphic detail. […] Continue reading

WHO Cares What The UN Thinks? Not AZ Governor Brewer

On August 28, I published an article entitled “Obama Surrendering US Sovereignty To UN?“. I was hoping what appeared to be the unconstitutional subjection of the United States to review by an outside government would garner attention beyond that paid by the Heritage Foundation. I was not disappointed. Arizona Governor Jan Brewer definitely noticed. She […] Continue reading

Did That Sovereignty Resolution Mean Anything?

By Shelli Dawdy Sovereignty…what does it really mean? On April 13, 2010, the Nebraska Unicameral passed the State Sovereignty Resolution sponsored by Senator Tony Fulton (29).  There was an energized effort to ensure the Resolution’s passage, including an overflow crowd at the Committee hearing in February and persistent contacts with legislators through its passage. Will […] Continue reading

The State of Arizona is currently defending seven lawsuits, including actions filed by the U.S. Justice Department, civil rights groups, and two police officers, contesting the state’s controversial immigration law.  In the suit brought by the Justice Department, the trial judge recently granted the Department’s motion for a preliminary injunction, preventing parts of the Arizona […] Continue reading

Firearms Safety Refresher Course

“Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not.” – Thomas Jefferson This idea has been making the email forward rounds, thought others may enjoy… “Firearms Refresher Course” An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject. A gun in the hand is better than a cop […] Continue reading

When Government Fears The People

Thomas Jefferson made the astute observation: “When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. When the government fears the people, there is liberty.” Today, the problem with our government at all levels is that it has no fear of the people. In fact, it’s worse than that. Our elected officials, as a group, have […] Continue reading

Where Does Nebraska Get Its Money?

I don’t know about anyone else, but I am rather shocked to discover that Nebraska receives so very much of its budget from the Federal government. Silly, silly me. So much for state sovereignty…Seems rather curious that our Governor has been complaining about the acceptance of federal funds recently… Continue reading

NE Think Tank Has a Lot In Common With Pelosi

On August 27th, the Platte Institute for Economic Research (Platte) sent out an email newsletter with a feature article entitled “The Economic Benefits of SNAP” in Nebraska. In 1996, Democrats and Republicans recognized welfare programs do nothing more than create cycles of dependency. The result was across the board welfare reform. Programs like SNAP are on the march to reversing those reforms. Continue reading
